题目:How Occupational KSA Alignment Constrains Upward Mobility in AI-Reshaped Labor Markets
主讲内容:
As artificial intelligence reshapes labor markets, this study examines how similarity between workers’existing occupational knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) and those required by target occupations affects upskilling and upward mobility over time. The findings reveal a persistent “similarity trap”: greater overall KSA similarity reduces the likelihood of upward mobility, instead channeling workers toward lateral or downward moves. Knowledge similarity shows substantial variation over time, suggesting sensitivity to changing technological and institutional conditions, while skill similarity becomes increasingly restrictive as routine-aligned skills lose mobility value in AI-affected labor markets. By contrast, the negative effect of ability similarity converges over time, implying that foundational cognitive capacities remain broadly transferable. The study contributes by reframing occupational similarity as a mechanism of mobility lock-in rather than advantage and by showing that the value of human capital shifts under technological disruption. It generates important practical implications for workforce develop and learning pathways.
